BLACK+DECKER Workmate WM536 Workbench
- 250 kg max load
- Steel frame
- Dual working heights
- Dual clamping cranks
- 4 clamp pegs
- Folds flat
- Rubber feet
- Requires assembly
- Particleboard work top
The BLACK+DECKER Workmate first appeared in the UK in the early 1970s. Since then, it has sold over 30 million worldwide, which is an incredible feat. At the time of writing this post, the Workmate WM536 cost just £44. While this is roughly £15 more than the entry-level Workmate WM301, we think it’s worth the extra money as it has a much sturdier design.
The Workmate WM536 has a two-piece work surface made from particleboard. The vice jaws are 61 cm long and can hold objects up to 136 mm wide. It comes with four orange clamp pegs that help to clamp curved or irregularly shaped objects in position. The steel frame can support a maximum load of 250 kg, while the anti-slip feet help keep it in place. The WM536 also features retractable legs that gives you the option of two different working heights. When it’s time to put the Workmate WM536 away, it folds flat easily and its low weight makes it easy to carry around.
Overall, the BLACK+DECKER Workmate WM536 is a sturdy workbench that won’t take up much space in your garage or shed. If you need a helping hand while you drill, paint, or sand, the WM536 is an affordable option.

- 450 kg max load
- Heavy duty plastic construction
- Folds flat
- 2 x 30 cm clamps
- Integrated shelf
- Carry handle
- No clamp pegs
- No guides/rulers
The Keter Master Pro features a patented quick-opening system that lets you set it up in seconds. All you need to do is pull out the release latches and lift the tabletop up. Four aluminium legs will then drop and lock into place. Then it’s just a case of locking the centre and side supports in place.
The Master Pro has a tough polypropylene plastic work surface that’s weather-resistant and fade-free. Its heavy-duty design can support weights up to 450 kg and there’s a storage shelf that can hold your tools and accessories. Also, it comes with two 30 cm clamps that you can use horizontally or vertically to grip things.
However, there are a few useful features missing when you compare the Master Pro with other work benches on our list. First, there are no clamp pegs or the option to insert any. Second, there are no guides or rulers to help with measurements. As a result, the Master Pro lacks the versatility offered by the other workbenches, but if you’re just looking for a simple work surface that you can deploy in no time, the Keter Master Pro is a good buy.
