BLACK+DECKER is one of the most popular power tool brands in the UK and they have many cordless combi drills available. For value for money, one of the best is the BLACK+DECKER BCD700S1K.

The BCD700S1K is a basic, no-frills combi drill that comes with one 1.5 Ah battery and a charger. It takes up to 3 hours to charge a battery, which is quite slow when compared with the other combi drills on the list. Additional 1.5 Ah batteries cost around £30 each, while larger capacities are also available.

The drill delivers a maximum torque of 40 Nm and features a 10 position clutch and two-speed gearing for powerful screwdriving and fast drilling. It also has a hammer function for concrete and masonry drilling. The BCD700S1K is the heaviest drill on our list and weighs 2.2 kg with the battery pack attached. So, if you’re looking for something lightweight, this drill isn’t the best option for you.

To sum up, the BLACK+DECKER BCD700S1K is a no-frills combi drill that’s ideal for DIY around the house. The drills weight and long charging time may put some people off, but for occasional users, this shouldn’t be an issue. The BCD700S1K is now available with two batteries with model number BCD700S2K.

  • LED work light
  • Keyless chuck for quick bit change
  • Quick 1 hour charge time
  • Ryobi ONE+ compatible
  • 2 year warranty, 3 years when registered
  • No battery level indicator
  • No carry case or bag

Includes

2 x 18 V 1.5 Ah battery pack, charger, double screwdriver bit

The Ryobi R18PD3-215GZ is the most powerful cordless combi drill to make it onto our list. The two-speed gearbox delivers up to 50 Nm of torque, while the 24 torque settings and variable speed trigger will give you the power and control you need for drilling and screwdriving. Additionally, there’s a hammer function to make drilling into concrete and brick easier.

The Ryobi comes with two 1.5 Ah batteries and a compact charger. The batteries take up to an hour each to charge, which is pretty quick. Ryobi claims you can drive over four hundred 32mm screws on a full charge, which is a lot of decking or flat-pack furniture you can build. At the base of the drill, you’ll find an LED work light and a storage clip that holds a double-ended screwdriver bit. One feature that is missing is a battery level indicator, whether on the drill or the batteries. However, you can find them on other ONE+ battery packs that are readily available.

At the time of writing, the Ryobi cost £74.99, which is very good value for money. It doesn’t come with a carry case or bag and there’s no battery level indicator, but these are minor negatives that don’t affect the quality and performance of an otherwise excellent cordless combi drill.

Includes

2 x 20 V 2.0 AH Li-ion battery packs, 1 hour charger, auxiliary hand grip, plastic carry case

The Draper 89523 Storm Force is a cordless combi drill that has 3 functions: drill, hammer drill and screwdriver. The 2-speed gearbox delivers a maximum torque of 50 Nm, which puts it alongside the Ryobi R18PD3-215GZ as the most powerful drills on our list. It has 22 torque settings, so you’ll be able to select the right amount of power for your task at hand, and there’s a hammer drill function that provides extra force for drilling into masonry.

The Draper 89523 comes with two 2.0 Ah battery packs and a one-hour quick charger. The batteries have a battery level indicator on the side so you know how much power there is. They also have a higher capacity than the 1.5 Ah batteries that are included with the over drills, which equates to a longer runtime. Additional battery packs cost around £40, while larger 4.0 Ah batteries will set you back at around £65. Finally, the Draper is the only combi drill to feature an auxiliary handgrip for extra control and mountings on either side allow it to be used by left and right-handed users.

To conclude, the Draper 89523 is a well spec’d cordless combi drill that offers plenty of power. The Storm Force battery system also allows you to use the batteries with other tools from the same range.

A key feature of the Bosch PSB 1800 LI-2 is the Syneon Chip technology that it uses. This is the principal component of an intelligent control system that optimizes power output and prevents overheating.

The PSB 1800 LI-2 is the lightest combi drill in the group, weighing only 1.3 kg with a battery pack attached. It has a 2-speed gearbox, 20 torque settings, and a hammer drill function. Other useful features include a keyless chuck with auto-lock, a LED task light, and a battery level indicator on the base of the drill itself.

The two batteries that come with the PSB 1800 LI-2 will provide more than enough juice for most DIY tasks. They also use lithium-ion technology, which means no memory effect or self-discharge. If you run out of power, you can recharge an empty battery in an hour with the charger included.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with the Bosch PSB 1800 LI-2. It’s well designed and comes with a wonderful array of features. It may lack the power of the other drills, but its light and compact design will be more of a draw for some users.

The Einhell TE-CD 18/2 Li-I comes with two 1.5 Ah battery packs, a high-speed charger, and a canvas tool bag. The battery packs have a battery level indicator built into them and according to Einhell, one battery can drive one hundred and eighty 60 mm screws into softwood, which gives you a good sign of the runtime they provide. However, if you run out of power, the charger only takes 30 minutes to recharge a battery, which is quick when compared with the other combi drills on the list.

For performance, the Einhell offers a maximum torque of 44 Nm, making it one of the most powerful in the group. Like the Ryobi, the Einhell has 24 torque settings and two gears for effective screwdriving, drilling and hammer drilling. Other features worth a mention include the large 13 mm keyless chuck and bright a LED work light.

The Einhell TE-CD 18/2 Li-I is an excellent cordless drill that ticks all the right boxes. It’s comparable to the Bosch in terms of features, but packs more power and comes with a faster charger.
